Food industry opportunity
Industrial Maintenance Mechanic - Food
Posted: November 5, 2026
Full-time, direct hire | $36–$40/hour
Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Summary:
Join a privately held, growing specialty food packer and distributor that provides toll packing services for customers in retail, foodservice, and food manufacturing. The company packs olives, capers, peppers, giardiniera, cherries, and other Mediterranean specialty foods in glass and plastic jars, pouches, and pails.
What Success Looks Like:
You’ll have the opportunity to learn our equipment and take ownership of keeping the packaging lines running. We’ll help you get familiar with the machines and how we operate. We’re looking for someone who can take the lead on troubleshooting and make sound repair decisions independently.
Diagnose unfamiliar equipment. Use observation, manuals, schematics, and hands-on testing to find the cause of a breakdown, including on older machines with limited built-in diagnostics.
Stay organized when priorities change. If more than 1 machine goes down, assess safety and production impact, communicate what you’ll tackle first, and get back to scheduled preventive maintenance once the urgent work is resolved.
Work closely with a small team. Keep Production and Quality informed, document repairs, and know when to bring in outside technical support.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of equipment reliability in a smaller operation, where you’ll work directly with production leadership and see the impact of your work every day. You’ll troubleshoot a variety of machines, improve preventive maintenance, and help install equipment as the business grows. If you enjoy figuring out how a machine works, getting it running again, and finding ways to prevent the next breakdown, this role offers plenty of variety.
Equipment you’ll work on:
Jar fillers, cappers, labelers, and tamper-evident band sealers
Vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) and linear pouch machines
Pail fillers, piston fillers, tumble fillers, and combination weigh scales
Modified atmosphere packaging equipment, conveyors, metal detectors, tray formers, and wrappers
Responsibilities:
Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic problems on conventional and newer packaging equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and replacement of worn components.
Respond to breakdowns, coordinate repairs with Production and Quality, and return equipment to service safely.
Assist with equipment installation, setup, and testing.
Document repairs and keep preventive maintenance on track when urgent work interrupts the schedule.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and hands-on experience with electrical and pneumatic systems.
Ability to work independently and use schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools to solve equipment problems.
Food packaging experience is preferred. Experience with several of the equipment types listed above is valuable.
Welding, basic fabrication, and Spanish language skills are pluses.
Availability for occasional overtime before or after shift or on weekends.
Salary & Benefits:
$36–$40/hour, plus overtime as needed. Benefits include: employer-supported medical coverage, dental and vision options, a profit-sharing retirement plan, 15 vacation days, and 8 paid holidays.
